Who is it for?

The honest truth? No, it’s not for everyone.

No restrictions. First of all, let me make it clear: ShimmyFitz is inclusive. There is no restriction by age or gender. Yes, anyone can dance ShimmyFitz!

Moderate health and fitness level. Ideally you should be of at least moderate health and fitness level. While ShimmyFitz is low impact, we do use very repetitive, isolated dance movements. So if you have knee issues, it is highly recommended you do NOT do leg shimmies which uses a lot of knee movements. If you have any injuries or health issues, please speak to your doctor first before taking on any fitness instruction. However, you do not need to be in top form. It is perfectly fine to not be able to complete a workout on your first try. We will shimmy our way to elevated fitness together!

Interest. It goes without saying, you have to enjoy the moves and music! In ShimmyFitz, we use belly dance-inspired moves. So if you enjoy moves like shimmies, hip rolls, and body waves, then ShimmyFitz is for you! We also use a variety of modern music, and we always use remixes which inspire the shimmy moves.

This is not belly dancing! Some dancers also prefer belly dancing in its original art form; if that’s you, then ShimmyFitz might not be for you!
